We all know how painful it is to not be able to ride. There are many of us who are competent riders, but cannot afford or have time to own a horse. Unfortunately in this sport, not having your own horse complicates things. It becomes harder to train, compete, or just find that special bond that builds between a human and a horse. But you know, it’s not impossible. With the right pairing of rider and horse, it can become a true win-win situation.

So how to make sure you find the right horse on Hooves?

First of all, build your profile in all honesty. Be straightforward with what you are looking for, and communicate you strengths and weaknesses. Be honest about your skill level – it is important to build a feeling of trust and responsibility towards the horse-owner, so starting off with a lie or exaggeration will not get you far. If you are not yet on the level you hope to be, then don’t lie about it. Instead, make it clear that you are eager to learn and willing to take lessons to get better.

Make sure to have pictures or videos on your profile. Our data shows a huge difference in interest towards profiles with or without pictures. Make sure to have at least one. In general make your profile as informative as possible, letting horse-owners know as much as possible about you, and thus creating a feeling of transparency.

Be active in your search. Some horse owners might not actively search for riders, but still have their horses profile on Hooves. Look through the horse search regularly, and chat with people with interesting profiles. You never know, if their horse is not available, maybe they know someone with a suitable fit for you. Networking is never a bad idea! Also, make sure to allow push notifications on your phone, we will always let you know if someone who fits your requirements has signed up.
